Yet, somewhere in the back of our minds, most of us still harbor a hope, if not an expectation, the good has to somehow rise up in the end and make all things right.
I have seen it all, the good and the evil. I think I understand what it is like to be immersed in an environment where darkness seems to prevail, even rule the day. In the worst case, I’m talking about things like survival from day-to-day in violence-prone neighborhoods or worse, situations where people are caught, for example, in the anarchy of Haiti or Christians being persecuted and martyred around the world.
The thing is, as the apostles Paul, Peter, and John clearly recorded in the first century, admitting the reality of all that depravity does not mean surrendering to it as if the outcome will be inevitable. As a matter of fact, the opposite is true. Justice and righteousness will win out because the Creator of all that exists, the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-present, absolutely holy God will bring everything to judgement and/or mercy, depending on where each of has chosen for our hearts to live. There is no greater choice in all of life because it tracks all of us into eternity.
